John 1:14
“And the Word became flesh, and dwelt among us, and we saw His glory, glory as of the only begotten from the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John opens his Gospel by revealing Jesus not merely as a teacher or prophet, but as the eternal Word of God. Before creation, the Word existed with God and as God, active in bringing all things into being. When John declares that the Word “became flesh,” he is proclaiming one of the most profound truths of the Christian faith: God the Son entered fully into human life without ceasing to be fully God.
Jesus did not appear as an illusion or distant figure. He dwelt among us, sharing in human weakness, emotion, and suffering, yet without sin. In Him, the fullness of God’s grace and truth was made visible. Grace without compromise and truth without condemnation met perfectly in the person of Christ.
This should also encourage us to know that he understands us. He sympathizes with us because He has experienced the full range of human experience and still lived a life in perfect alignment with the will of the Father.
This matters deeply for the Church. God did not remain distant from His creation; He came near. Jesus shows us not only who God is, but how life is meant to be lived in dependence, obedience, humility, and love. Today, reflect on one aspect of Jesus’ life or character and ask God to shape that same posture within you.
Prayer Prompt to awaken Faith by Bold Action
Jesus, I worship You as the eternal Word made flesh. Thank You for drawing near to me in grace and truth. Shape my life by Your example as I follow You faithfully. Awaken my faith to live boldly in obedience as You form Your church among us. Remind me that you see me, remind me that you hear me, remind me that you are near, know my name, and love me deeply. Thank you for becoming a man, thank You for reaching down so that I can call upward. May I bring You glory in all that I do.
-AMEN-
