2 Timothy 3:16
“All Scripture is inspired by God and beneficial for teaching, for rebuke, for correction, for training in righteousness;”
Paul writes these words to Timothy near the end of his life, offering a final charge to what will sustain the Church beyond his own ministry. Facing imprisonment and uncertainty, Paul does not point Timothy to influence, innovation, or adaptability. He points him to Scripture as the enduring foundation for faith and obedience.
Paul declares that all Scripture is “God-breathed.” This means the Bible is not merely human reflection, but the very breath of God carried by the Holy Spirit. Because Scripture comes from God, it carries His authority and truthfulness. It is reliable to teach us what is true, expose what is false, restore what is broken, and form lives marked by righteousness.
Scripture is not given only to inform, but to transform. Paul explains that God uses His Word to equip His people for every good work. Faithful action flows from a life shaped by God’s Word, not from personal preference or cultural pressure. This shaping is both personal and communal, forming individuals and churches that are anchored, discerning, and obedient.
At the beginning of what God is building at The Waters Edge, this passage establishes a clear truth: the Church is formed by God’s Word. Where Scripture is honored, faith is awakened, and obedience follows.
Prayer Prompt to awaken Faith by Bold Action
God, awaken our faith through Your Word. Form us personally and corporately as a people who believe, obey, and live out what You have spoken. Quiet our minds, quiet our hearts, speak through Your Word and speak through Your Spirit. Thank You for Your promises and thank You for Your faithfulness. Lord, as we draw near to you, bring to us the opportunities to share Your truth with others. God, give me a chance to speak Truth into and over those around me, starting within my home. If there are any that are not churched that come across my path, God allow me to invite them to the Water's Edge. Lord, increase my faith. - Amen-
