Ephesians 4:13
“Until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a mature man…”
God’s desire for the Church is maturity in Christ, not mere activity. Where there is maturity in Christ, there is unity in Christ. Unity within the context of the local body, as well as unity in the context of all believers everywhere. Our faith in the One who came and rules and reigns is in and of itself what unifies us. Paul teaches in this passage that spiritual gifts and roles are given so that believers may grow together into Christlikeness. Maturity is measured not by knowledge alone, but by unity, stability, and love.
Growth happens best in community. God shapes His people through shared life, mutual encouragement, and accountability. As each person contributes, the body becomes more resilient and reflective of Christ’s character.
For a church at the beginning, this vision keeps us grounded. We are not rushing toward results, but growing steadily together. Today, commit to pursuing growth not in isolation, but in relationship with others in the body. Pick up the phone, schedule that meal with someone, and commune with another family in the church. Let's take that next step together.
Prayer Prompt to embody Love with Relentless Grace
God, grow us together into maturity. Protect me from division and immaturity. Teach me to walk patiently and humbly with one another. Shape this church into a unified body that reflects the character of Christ. Freedom is what I seek, Lord, reveal what is limiting me from walking in freedom with you and break me from it in Jesus Name. I desire to look more like you, speak more like you, pray more like you, and live more like you.
