Ephesians 4:12
“For the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ.”
This passage is essential to the role of each follower of Christ within the local church. Paul explains that leadership in the Church exists not to perform all ministry, but to equip God’s people to do it. Ministry is not reserved for a few, but entrusted to the whole body. Every believer is called to participate in the work God is doing.
This vision reframes how we understand our role at The Water’s Edge. We are not called to passive attendance, but to active service. As each person functions in their God-given role, the Church grows healthier and stronger. Ministry flows from identity, not obligation. A core aspect of learning about how you are gifted is understanding what Jesus wants to do through you in the church. Not only to build it up to look more like Him, but also to build it through ministering to those not yet in the church.
At the beginning of The Waters Edge, this truth sets the culture. God is forming a church where every person is equipped and engaged. Today, ask God how He may be inviting you to serve and contribute within the body. Every person has a purpose, and our job is to equip everyone to fulfil what the Lord desires to do in you and through you.
Please take some time to do this. When you're confident in your role, share it with church leadership so they can fulfil their calling to serve and support you.
Prayer Prompt to awaken Faith by Bold Action
Lord, awaken my faith to step into the work You have prepared for me. Help me see myself as a participant, not an observer. Give me the courage to serve where You call me. Build this church as each part works together in obedience. Give me the boldness to step into what you are leading me toward. Holy Spirit, lead me, empower me, give me faith, and get Your glory out of my obedience.
