Devotional: A Surrendered Faith

Hebrews 11:32 - 38
When we read this passage, we see two realities sitting side by side. On one hand, we see incredible victories, kingdoms conquered, miracles performed, and promises fulfilled. On the other hand, we see deep suffering, rejection, persecution, loss, and even death. This is the tension of faith. Faith is not just trusting God when things go well. Faith is trusting God when obedience leads you into difficulty. The men and women in this chapter were not defined by outcomes, but by surrender. Their lives pointed beyond themselves to something greater, someone greater.
That someone is Jesus Christ. When He came, He fulfilled everything they hoped for, but not in the way many expected. He did not come simply to remove earthly hardship. He came to conquer sin and establish a kingdom that cannot be shaken. He rode into Jerusalem in humility. He suffered. He was rejected. He died. And through that obedience, He secured eternal life for us.
So the question for us is not just do we believe in Him. The deeper question is, do we trust Him as King? Take a moment today to examine your heart honestly. How do you approach God? Is He primarily someone you go to for help, answers, or provision, or is He truly your King? One of the clearest ways to see this is through your prayer life. If your prayers are only requests, emergencies, or routine moments, it may reveal that you see Him more as a provider than as Lord. But when we begin to slow down, listen, surrender, and align our hearts with His will, something shifts. Faith begins to grow deeper. Trust becomes anchored not in outcomes, but in His character. Today, choose to cultivate a posture of surrender. Acknowledge Him as King, not just in what you need, but in how you live.
PRAYER
"Father, thank You for Your Word. Thank You for the testimony of those who walked by faith, trusting You in both victory and suffering. Lord, I confess that too often I come to You for what You can give instead of surrendering to who You are. Forgive me for the ways I have reduced You to my needs rather than honoring You as King of kings. Jesus, thank You for Your obedience, for riding into Jerusalem, for enduring the cross, and for securing life for me. Thank You for thinking of me even in Your suffering. Holy Spirit, help me to see clearly. Give me a heart that trusts You fully, not just in moments of blessing but in every circumstance. Teach me to pray with surrender, to live with obedience, and to follow You wherever You lead. I give You my life again today. You are my Savior. You are my King. In Jesus’ name I pray."
-Amen.
